New Ways of Making Money in Trucking

What’s considered “Old School”, is it someone with more experience than another person? Is it someone that is just older than another person? “Old School” to me is an era especially in the trucking industry of not just experience, certainly nothing to do with age, but a time of fun and common sense. To most people they think of running from the law and fudging those log books to get in an extra mile are old school and those things happened, but maybe not for the reasons that you think. We weren’t just cowboys gone crazy on the roads but hard working drivers trying to make money in one of the toughest industries around. To be part of the “Old School” club you had to have common sense, determination, and a good work ethic. You had to think for yourself and there was a perception that truckers were heroes of the road. We talk with some “Old School” Drivers to start out the month on the podcast talking about how they built successful careers behind the wheel and now out of the seat and what drivers need to know. We turn the clock ahead to new drivers in the middle of the month and how they are making money in today’s world of trucking. We talk with Mike Helms about how he has built his company from 12 trucks to 20 and is showing other young people how to do it as well? Later in the month we get back to driver professionalism as we take a look at award winning drivers and find out what it takes to build top of the line equipment for those owner operators that want nothing but the best. We find out how drivers are progressing in their careers and where they can go after they have time on the road.
